I bathe pups weekly or every two week, and before they go to their new homes. Puppies get messy quickly so frequently baths are sometimes necessary. I do not like to bathe regularly because bathing with soap strips the skin of essential oils and is counterproductive most of the time.
I like earthbath, Espree, show sheen products
A lot of the horse products work really well.
Go to a feed or pet store. Head over to the shampoo section. There should be conditioners along with all the shampoo. I like Mane 'n Tail and EQyss Grooming Products.
For pups, I use Espree puppy shampoo. Tearless and mild. Bathtub should be fine. Get temp just right. Towel off well after rinsing and let him run outside if it's warm enough so he can shake off excess water. Blow dry if you can. I spritz them with show sheen afterwards - it helps repel future dust and dirt. Keeps hair moisturized and soft. Nails are softer after baths so it's a good time to clip.
I don't use harsh brushes on pups. I don't want them associating a negative feeling with the process. I use a rubber bath brush during the bath and after to get water off. When they are dry, I use a soft bristle slicker brush to brush out excess fur. I don't like using furminators, shedding blade, etc - rips out too much coat
I do nails every week until 3 months. After that I do every two weeks.
I only bathe when necessary. Too frequent bathing strips the skin of oils and dries the coat out!
